v2.0 FileCura V2 is here — support guide for the free app + paid packs.
Support

FileCura support & setup guide.

Install FileCura, use the Quick Actions, unlock paid packs, and troubleshoot common macOS prompts.

Applies to FileCura v2.0.

1. Install FileCura

  1. Download the signed and notarised FileCura DMG from the homepage.
  2. Double-click the DMG to mount it.
  3. Drag FileCura to your Applications folder.
  4. Open FileCura from Applications. The first launch may briefly verify the Developer ID — this is expected.

2. Quick Actions install automatically

On first launch, FileCura installs its six free Finder Quick Actions and enables them in Finder for you — no manual setup needed. You'll see a green confirmation banner on the Dashboard.

The six bundled Quick Actions are:

  • Category Tagging — apply saved category keywords to Finder Comments and Spotlight metadata.
  • Single Tag Selector — pick a single tag from your categories and apply it.
  • Text & Comment Tools — rename files and manage Finder Comments in bulk.
  • Smart Duplicate Scanner — flag likely duplicates by metadata signals.
  • Spotlight Path Refresher — nudge Spotlight to re-index after moves or renames.
  • Clean Duplicate Comments — remove repeated lines from Finder Comments.
If Quick Actions don't show in Finder:

Open System Settings → Login Items & Extensions → Quick Actions and make sure the FileCura entries are enabled. Then right-click a file in Finder.

3. Create tag categories

  1. Open the Categories tab in FileCura.
  2. Add a new category (for example: Clients, Projects, Receipts, Legal).
  3. Add the tag keywords you want to use under each category.
  4. Save. Your categories are stored locally on your Mac and never leave it.
Tip:

Categories are yours alone — they're stored on this Mac and never uploaded. The Metadata Power Pack adds tag export, import, and audit workflows if you want to move category setups between Macs.

4. Add paid packs for more workflows

FileCura ships free with the six Quick Actions above. Two optional add-on packs are available:

  • File Hygiene Pack (£9) — Duplicate Reports, Old & Stale Files, Large File Finder, Downloads Tidy. Never auto-deletes.
  • Metadata Power Pack (£9) — Metadata Export & Import (CSV), Tag Audit, Comment Templates.

After purchase, your .filecuralicense file arrives by email within a couple of minutes. Drag it onto FileCura and the new workflows unlock instantly.

5. Remove or reinstall Quick Actions

  1. Open FileCura.
  2. Go to the Quick Actions tab.
  3. To reinstall everything: click Install / Update All.
  4. To remove FileCura's Quick Actions from Finder: click Remove FileCura Quick Actions.
  5. For one workflow at a time, click Manage → Reinstall or Manage → Remove in the row's menu.

Removing Quick Actions does not delete your saved categories or your license — those stay safe on this Mac.

Troubleshooting

macOS is asking for Automation permission

Some Quick Actions need Automation permission to read or update Finder Comments. When macOS prompts, allow FileCura to control Finder. You can review or revoke this later under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.

App blocked by Gatekeeper on first launch

FileCura is a Developer ID signed and notarised app. If macOS still blocks the first launch:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll to the message about FileCura being blocked.
  3. Click Open Anyway and confirm.

I lost my paid pack license file

Reply to your original Lemon Squeezy order email, or email hello@filecura.com with your order number. We'll re-send the same license file — same buyer ID, no extra charge.

The Dashboard banner says "Quick Actions need attention"

This is FileCura's integrity watchdog noticing one of its workflows has gone missing from Finder. Click Fix in the banner to reinstall the missing workflows automatically.

Still stuck?
